Follow the rules, and you would be fine,
Should be rhyming, at least a couple of lines,
We promise we'll fine the perfect match, a pic,
For your art, your thought, if you approve of it.

A Father's Day Poem

The summer heat is hotter these days,
When you all are gone to a far off place,
Your things remind me of your laughs and pranks,
Around the house in which you run and dance.

I talk to you, you talk to me,
Over the phone wires carrying your Hinglish,
That is all I get from you and there it ends,
No hugs, angry looks, mistakes or making amends.

I am trying to go back to my olds ways and times,
My friends, coffee, pizza, beer and cheap wine,
Long drives, fast food, not caring about dollars or dimes,
Junk food, dirty dishes, movies and late nights.

But I guess I am now a child and you my toy,
All I can see and want is my bubbly joy,
The nursery rhymes, cartoon characters, innumerable but unique,
The parks, kids, bubbles and the swings in it.

The blue cart with your Dora in it,
Taking it around the the Safeway aisles,
Your friends all as bubbly and foolish like you,
Who love “Wheels on the Bus” and going to school.

Cannot wait for the day when you’ll see me,
And will extricate yourself from your Mommy,
And would come running toward me, on the airport floor so shiny,
And would embrace me, your poor Papa a.k.a Puppy.

Then we’ll go together to our humble abode,
Which your Mommy will clean for an hour or so,
Then we’ll eat some candies and watch some cartoons,
Brush our teeth and come up with stories about the Sun and the Moon.

Sounds like a fairy tale to me today,
When there is no sign of you, and it’s just me and the air,
All lofty ambitions have gone to sleep,
I blame it all on you and am done with it.

As for age..

They say age is just a number,
And that it must not come in between you and what you can do,
Whether that’s that extra mile you can run,
Or pick a hobby or a job completely new.

But there are so many numbers other than age that…

What are these ugly yet lively creatures,
That croak and croak ominously,
While perched on the tree tops,
Swinging wildly in their ravenous success.

There seem to be many,
Each owning a tree top, one taller than the other,
Cawing wildly and…

The garden is smiling,
Under the azure sky and the crisp Sun,
But the corner that is the happiest,
Is the one where my Daisies come.

I know not of the tune they sing,
Or the hues that my eyes can’t see,
That float through the warm Spring breeze,…

No daffodils these,
But still so pretty,
Jolted me out of my reverie,
The inward eye of poetry.

Cajoled me to walk slow,
Take a long sip,
Gaze hard so the mind,
Surrendered to the eyes

Au revoir, until I see you again
I will make do with the radiant hues,
That blossom in your sets wake,
Or the moon that doth bask,
Relaying your presence in the dark,
Dancing with your merry friends,
Twinkling in the night till the very end,
Of the…

Ensconced in my cozy home,
News poured in about the virus,
Spreading more wildly than the fires,
That ravaged us and left us gasping

There is now a curfew out there,
No body move, travel or gather, they say,
Just stay home with the ones you live…

It was easy to look at the Sun,
A beautiful orange ball, at the Mid-day hour
Was not a secret anymore, looked ordinary from afar
The smoke that hid the Earth, exposed the Star

But it did remind me of the countless things,
That we forget to thank…

Flowers blossoming around me,
Nature clamoring for attention in trees,
Shedding and regaining their healthy leaves

Conspicuous, unnamed they exist, like you,
Completing me silently and with ease,
And when…

Gift Shop Bills: The Kid In Me Celebrates His Birthday

I woke up one year older,
Chiding the passage of time, against my will
When all at once I saw a bunch,
A host of loving gift shop bills.
In her pockets, in the cars trunk,
Fluttering and…
