Sequoias

In the middle of nowhere,

But in the midst of the galaxy,

In the dark of the night,

Bathing in the twinkling light.

Away from the maddening crowd,

Yet in the thick of history,

The Sequoias beckon me,

To join their wild party.

Straight, long, stout they stand,

Kissing each other with all their parts,

Roots entwined, leaves entangled,

Nature’s intercourse, still, over centuries.

Hollow from within,

Yet laden with qualms,

I tread into the valley,

Looking for that misty balm.

A whiff here, a gentle whisper there,

They come from all the directions,

A tree here, a valley deep,

A Sun up, a mist everywhere

I melt into the ground,

Into the milk way,

The forest overpowers me,

The roots suck me in.
